FAMILY VIOLENCE
PREVENTION OUTREACH WORKER

Awo Taan Healing Lodge is a high-energy, client-focused organization that believes in a wholistic approach through cultural wellness that encompasses mind, spirit and body.

We are currently seeking candidates for the position of Family Violence Outreach Worker to provide support services to families/individuals affected by domestic violence. This program gives priority to referrals received from specific Community Resource Centres.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic Outreach Team to provide support services for families and individuals; to facilitate self-help groups, healing circles, etc., and organize/facilitate information/awareness workshops for the general public within the designated geographical area of the CRCs.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • BSW or equivalent (diploma and work experience)
  • Extensive knowledge of community resources, with ability to investigate new resources.
  • Knowledge, awareness of domestic violence and abuse issues.
  • Organizational skills, writing and public speaking.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal issues and culture (an asset).
  • Awareness of Protection Against Family Violence Act, Child Welfare Act.
  • CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Class 5 Drivers License and own vehicle.
Successful Candidate must provide criminal and child welfare checks.

RELIEF CRISIS COUNSELOR

Awo Taan Healing Lodge is a high energy, client focused organization that believes in the holistic approach through cultural wellness that encompasses the mind, spirit, and body.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for intakes of new residents
  • To provide immediate response to crisis calls and provide crisis intervention
  • Provide counselling services to residents of the shelter
  • Assist other crisis counsellors, volunteers and practicum students when necessary.
  • As a relief crisis counsellor; please understand that you are on call and you must be willing to do day, evening or midnight shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or diploma in Social Work or equivalencies
  • Ability to do shift work and to be on call
  • Understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal culture
  • Knowledge of family violence and its effects
  • Child Welfare and Criminal check
